Was at the local WallyWorld today getting some automobile stuff and wandered into the fishing section. To my surprise, the Dick Nite racks were almost empty, except the 50/50 racks. There were plenty of the 50/50's in all three sizes. Everything else was well picked over. Don't know if they just happened to re-stock these racks, but who cares. Picked up another 10 number 2 50/50's. I got to learn to use these things!!!!

The lures have certainly made a name for themselves and if you ever get the chance to meet the man behind the scenes (and his wife, too) you’ll know why. Great company; great couple at the helm! :) :)

So far, there has been a ton of good tips and how-to's on fishing with the Dick Nite spoons. One thing that hasn't been discussed, so I will bring it up now; has anyone had any success trolling a Dick Nite behind a diver in tide water, say in the lower Chehalis around Montesano?? I ask, as this is one of my favorate rivers, and tons of folks troll with spinners. Would a diver (Hot-N-Tot), small #0 flasher, 7'-8' leader, and a Dick Nite work?? I think next time I go there I'll give it a try. My problem is however, if something new doesn't work in the first 1/2 hour, I always seem to go back to what worked in the past, not giving the new set-up ample time to prove it's self. That's probably why I have 3 tackle boxes full of stuff and always use the same thing.

so bring some people w/ you, rig up a rod w/ new stuff, other rods with tried and true

I couldnt resist, I went down to Outdoor Emporium and purchased more spoons. I also got a couple of floats (mainly for drifting jigs for steelhead later this year). Then I started I thinking about fishing these suckers under a float as well as slow drifting them like people have suggested......any thoughts?

Two questions here.

1. On the dropper line (6" or so) do you use the same lb test as your main line or the same lb test as your leader? What about something in between?

2. I tried drifting a DN with dropper line on the nisqually - seemed when I cast my line the leader with the DN tangled with the dropper line. Any suggestions? Also, if I used these on the upper Puke or Carbon, does the current dictate size of the spoon or just the size of the weight?

Thanks!

Third question. Instead of using a dropper, could you slide a cannonball on your mainline so it doesn't get tangled and then just extend your leader?

1. Depending on where you are using em, I know some use a lighter test line for the dropper if there are a lot of rocks to get hung up on. Makes breaking off just the sinker easier than losing the whole setup.

2. Sometimes I go without a dropper line and that can help. Just my opinion, but the current to me would dictate primarily the weight. Water clarity would have more influence on the size of the spoon than the current since none of the DN's are really all that big.

That's just my opinions, though. :geek:
