I'm looking for a Bank rod to use in some of the rivers up in Nortwest Washington. I have a 6 foot boat rod with a shamino reel. What is a good rod/reel combo. Thanks in advance.

I have never fished Sturgeon from the bank, but from my understanding they use those 10' - 12' rods so they can cast out a long ways into the big rivers. You may be fine with the 6' rod for the NW rivers, they aren't too wide.

I like to use 12-14 foot Rods for longer casting.
I've seen guys at Bonneville with 16 footers. It's a bit much, but
these guys are catchin fish. Also, if you have strong currents and a rocky bottom.
Pound a couple of nails into your lead, and make sure your dropper is lighter then your mainline.
Expect to loose a lot of lead.
I love fishing for those damn things.

Good Luck,

Ken

Ya I'm fishing the skagit for the bank so i guess the current isn't as bad as Bonneville. Thanks for the help.

I fish local for Sturgeon, so the use of a monstrous rod is of no use to me. Would not mind a trip or two for the oversize ones though.

It would be nice to hook into a nice 14 footer down there! And Riley not yet I'm going looking today out at sportman's and Hoilday sports hopefully they'll have something.
