We started fishing the shore lines for Bass and Walleye at around 7:00 am I was casting a bronze colored Crankbait. At around 10:30 I caught a 22' Walleye. From 10:30 on we picked up several very nice Largemouth and several nice Walleye. We also caught a very nice 4lb Rainbow casting the same bronze colored crankbait. Later that evening I decided to try my luck trolling a small flatfish for some more
Rainbows. After about 2hrs of trolling My wife (Avis) and I picked up three Rainbows about 14" and 2 large Bluegill. I suspect the largest Bluegill may have been a state record but I did not get it to a certified scale for weighting.

Fishing has been good at Sprague lake for the past couple of weeks. A lot of large trout (19+") have been taken and the perch are large and fat. The walleyes have finally started to bite. It's an evening show at the moment, between dusk and midnight. They seem to prefer "Hot Lips" and 'Rebel Craws' along with Rapala's in the 'perch' colors. Trout are gobbling up anything you throw at them. Crappies and bluegills are slow, while bullheads are abundant, taking nightcrawler w/white marshmallows.

Lake temp has risen!! Walleye started biting today, they've been hitting Rapala's in the 'perch' config and 'crawfish' type cranks. Those opened up to examine their eating has revealed they're full of crawdads! Good luck on Sprague......

Well... I took Jack's advice (see report below) and used a "Crawfish" crank bait for some very nice walleye and with very good results! We stayed at the Four Season's campground over the Memorial Weekend (and they were most hospitable, highly recommended). Fished both Sat. and Sun. and caught 1 Smallmouth, 4 legal Walleye, 3 perch, several nice rainbows and lost a number of very nice fish. We caught the Walleye's casting the crank bait to the shore line, perch using worm and bobber, smallmouth trolling a fly (yes trolling a fly!) and the trout were caught using a variety of traditional trout catching methods. We also witnessed some awesome fishing activity right from the Four Season fishing dock of which included a 6lb+ rainbow and some very nice catfish along with perch and other nice trout. Thanks to the Four Seasons campground for the awesome campground, a great time was had!

A Friend and I spent the day on the lake today, We got very few bites and those only came on live worms. Nothing was biting anything else we threw in. We talked to a couple other people who had the same luck we did.

Fishing with the family over the past weekend was very good at Sprague. We stayed a the Four Seasons Campground and I must say that the hospitality there was outstanding, Jane and Scott are top notch hosts. I would highly recommend their facilities, thanks to both Scott and Jane! Now the the fishing, we arrived thurs evening and had about 1 hour of fishing time before dark so My oldest daughter (Nicole) and I headed out to catch the evening bite. After fishing for about 10 min. I had a big time hit, I was unable to get a good hook set but I'm sure it was a very nice fish. Friday ended up being a pretty good day, we ended up with a few nice trout and a couple of decent walleye. We caught all of the fish on friday trolling a small crawfish crankbait. Sat. we decided to try fishing of the Four Season dock after about 5 or 6 hours of fishing we ended up with 7 nice trout and some small walleye that we released. We fished next to a very nice guy named Kim who ended up catching a 4lb rainbow and Avis had one break her line. Later that afternoon we jumped in the boat a pulled a nightcrawler very slow along the bottom and caught a couple more nice trout and a couple keeper walleye. Sunday, was much slower for us we fished until about 2:00pm and caught 1 2lb catfish and on trout. Avis again had a huge trout on and lost it. All in all a great trip we're looking forward to going back soon!

Check out the new road surface from Sprague to Four Seasons Campground. It is virtually "Dust Free" now. Walleye have been caught in the last 3 weeks on jigs, plugs, and worm harnesses. Most Walleye keepers have been 18-21" males. We've seen one 27" female caught. We know of Large Mouth Bass caught and released to 3.5 lb. Several rainbow trout have been caught this spring in the 2-5 lb range. A few bullhead catfish have shown. Expect Perch and Blue Gill to become active by the end of May.

Fished for a week at Sprague Lake. We stayed at the Four Seasons Campground and once again we were overwhelmed with hospitality from Scott and Jane. Thanks to you both for the great accommodations ~~~ After several days of fishing we caught many very nice rainbows fishing worms on the bottom in front of the Sprague Lake Resort, a few nice walleye using crankbaits and also nightcrawlers slowly drifting with the wind on the bottom, some crappie and a huge bluegill using red and white jigs. I also caught a couple of small smallmouth and a couple of decent largemouth bass casting various crankbaits. The fishing was tough due to a ugly algae bloom. The bloom made it difficult to troll or cast without getting your lure all messed up with algae.

Fished Sprague Lake two days, caught a few rainbow, fishing was slow. Second day was ruined by a fisherman in a boat that chose drop anchor where we were fishing, when I told him he dropped his anchor where we were fishing, his comment was good thing you don't own the lake. I waited a few minutes to see if he would move and he didn't. So I chose too leave rather than invite trouble. Well the old jerk wears a red cap and drives a Dodge Pickup. Its a shame we have to tolerate such people. Well any way we drove out to Four Seasons Campground to check it out, it is not a paved road as all the way and it still gets the moter home very dirty, guess you can't believe everything you read. Fishing was also very slow at Four Seasons and the water was full of green ugly algae.

My family and I went out on Saturday Aug, 5th. We were jigging with rubber grubs and never got a bite. So about 12:00 pm we started trolling with countdown Rapalla's. The one I was using had a dark top and gold belly. Ten minutes after we started I caught a 3 1/2 pound walleye. It was a nice one. Fifteen minutes after that I hooked into a 2 3/4 pound walleye. Twenty minutes after that it was a 3 pounder. Then it was time to go my two year old was getting hot and tired.

On Saturday there was a west wind blowing and Scott Haugen and I caugth 9 legal walleyes, two of which were over 4 pounds and both were released. The largest was 5 pounds. The bait of choice was a Rapala shad rap, size 7 in the lighter colors such as shad and crawdad. When the sun came out we switched to gold w/black back and a chrome perch Hot Lips. Most of the activity was along the north shore. On Sunday the wind disappeared and jigging in 16-18' with Kastmaster spoons, Kalin grubs, and tube baits produced two legal fish and one was caught on a red and orange lead head hair jig. All jigs were tipped with a piece of nightcrawler. This time of year generally produces some very nice fish and fishing pressure is non-existent. In my last three outings I have caught and released 10 walleyes over 4 pounds. Also some real nice rainbows being caught from the Four Seasons Campground dock. Ron Millik

Walleye are post spawn and sattered. Water temps 54-58. Took several nice fish 19-22 inches on live leeches. Lost several more. Wind strong and fishing hard. SR-5 Shad Raps in perch pattern also working on scattered fish

I fished Sprague Lake from 5/15 through 5/25. The weather was cold and windy early in this period but became calm and warmed up the last 4-5 days. Early fishing (walleye and largemouth bass) was productive using Rapala Shad Raps (size 4 or 5) in the lighter colors. Several nice fish over 4 pounds were caught and released. When the wind disappeared, 3 1/2" tube baits were the bait of choice. We were catching so many walleye and bass that we released all of the fish with the exception of one or two to eat each day! Some very nice largemouth were also caught with one bruiser being hooked and lost at the boat. Some nice fish were also caught on Hot Lips and Fat Raps. Overall, the fishing was quite good with very few slow days.

Fished late afternoon until after dark. Caught and released 32 walleye and two smallmouth. Fished Shad raps, Bomers and Owner cranks. Fish very shallow mostly less than five feet. Some in only a foot or two.

I think the heat had the fish slowed down. By fishing after dark and pulling live leeches slowly was able to catch and release 11 walleye, 2 channel cats and one dandy largemouth bass. fishing seemed slow but did miss a number of fish.

Me and my Uncle went to Sprague this past weekend and went Bass
hunting. Fishing was real hard. We managed to find some fish banging
the shoreline with spinnerbaits and crankbaits all chartreuse
pattern. One Smallie was caught on a drop shot rigged soft plastic
Rainbow Trout. Most of our fish was caught by the launch across from
the resort. We caught a few Smallies and I caught one Largemouth all
on spinnerbaits. We were patterning the shoreline and looking for
shallow rocks that met deep water and weeds. I even hooked what had
to be a 20 LB. Carp. He bumped my Carolina rigged Senko and I set
the hook. 10 minutes later I brought him to the surface and saw that
he was foul hooked in the side. The fishing was tough due to the
wind that picked up about 9 in the morning, and the fact that the
lake seemed deeper than we can remember in past trips. The fish were
real scattered and didn't seem to be concentrated anywhere outside
of that launch.
