I've never fished the Skagit and have actually only visited the river once. I want to take my sled there this winter but I'm not sure where to launch. Is Rockport (Steelhead Park) the place to go or is there somewhere else to launch the sled to get in on the action?

Launch at Rockport is $5 and the only one that your vehicle is safe since it is patrolled. Just remember to make sure your trailer is pointed downstream as there is pile of rocks from the jets just outside and you will hang up on it.....

When did they start charging to launch at Howard Miller SJ?

That's where I'd launch for the next month or so Viper.

Come Feb though, I'd start launching at Birdsview and fishing that area... 'til March then it's back to Howard Miller.

SportJet is right on about the launch, they started charging $5 this year. The launch is not great, but your truck will be safer there than other places on the river. I have found that the best way to launch is to angle the trailer WAY down river off the concrete. Just watch the sled launch before you and follow suit.

I am not sure Webo. I came back a few weeks ago to a sticky on my window saying "pay up or get towed next time". Thats when I realized there is a small pay station off the the high side of the launch that was blocked by a truck so I never saw it. I figure $5 is cheap since he patrols the lot on a regular basis.

They are nice folks up there. The fee is 5 bucks. The guy that checks to make sure you pay will give ya a report.
Ther was a rig that blocked the pay station at the ramp on thurs. It was just like mine. I offered to trade straight across. Mine has 100,000 more miles. He did'nt bite. If you are reading this...My offer still stands.
You can buy a season pass for 50.00 if you plan on spending some time up there.
