Though great technology when those cameras were initially released, they don't come close to the picture quality and function digital cameras of today. Just a "victim" of the ever-changing tech world. All film cameras are virtually extinct now anyway.
Digital is actually of less versatility and quality than a film, sometimes. Try shooting an action shot on a regular digital camera, and try it on film. I'm not photographer, but my uncle, who is a professional photographer, says he uses the digital for most of his work because its easier to work with and distribute to his customers, but he says he doesn't see film camera ever dying.
Its too bad about polariod. I had fun with those cameras, pushing around the ink before it set made some funky designs.
