I have been buying potato bacon soup from QFC's deli for quite a while as I would rather enjoy that for lunch than some gross greasy burger Tdown: . I love the thick texture of it and while the wife and I have tried to duplicate it I cant even come close.

I have tried 3 different recipes and all are nowhere close to being the thick style I am looking for.

Any suggestions?

Chuck, try making it with a roux. I'd suggest 1/2 a cube of butter with 1/4 cup flour. Whisk it until the roux no longer tastes like flour; it will be slightly brown and have a nutty kind of taste. Remove from heat and whisk in part of your soup base then add that to your soup. It won't make concrete, but it will thick enough to use for spackle :D

Or... post your recipe and let us see if we can make any other suggestions.
