This is an American idea.

What do you think of all these "porks" being included into bills that are trying to solve a problem.

Both sides of the House have been guilty of this so please do not say what the other side has done and not mention what your side has done.

Pork... The Other White Meat.. Does Not Promote Equality!

To quote President Bush...
"This great and prosperous land must become a single nation of justice and opportunity. We must continue our advance toward full equality for every citizen, which demands ... a guarantee of civil rights for all. Any suggestion that the segregated past was acceptable or positive is offensive and it is wrong."
-- President George W. Bush, December 12, 2002

Look for The President to squander his political capital fighting against pork with veto power and executive orders.

Sir John - Here in America unfortunately... a politician's first priority is to get re-elected. "Pork" projects are how a particular Senator or Representative tries to keep favor with his constituency and stay in office by bringing Federal tax dollars to their districts.

Example: Representative Joe Schmo is from the 33rd Congressional district California. (hypothetical) This district contains a lot of swamp land but also the potential to build a port. Joe Schmo, who happens to be a transportation committee member in the House of Representatives adds language to a national spending bill that would provide Federal tax dollars to dredge the swamp and build a port... benefitting mainly the citizens of his district. This language is hidden amongst the 300 pages of text and is voted on, passed and signed by the President.

That's what we mean by Pork.
