Went out Friday to the Skagit Delta for ducks. Ed and I decided it was time to fight the hordes on the 15 shell limit area. We managed to secure our favorite blind, but soon found out why. The birds were using the area about one half mile north of us and not focus on our pond. We both brought our dogs as this area we could control the chaos of two dogs. They were both leashed until it was their turn to retrieve. This was a challenge for my ten-month old vizsla, Zeus, as he hasn’t mastered the mark of the bird with the shot and his view was somewhat restricted from the blind. Shooting was spread out over the morning, never hot and heavy, but we were enjoying a great cigar with our coffee, so all was well.

We did manage to pack out a mixed bag limit of mallard, pintail, widgeon, and teal. If you go, watch out for the pintails! How can it be that they are in such limited numbers that we can only shoot one? I’m sure that 95 percent of the ducks we saw were pintails. And there were thousands in the early morning! This was Zeus’ first limit of ducks and between my buddy and I, we had a big handful of shells left on the way out.

Nice pics. We hunted that area on Sunday am. Saw the same. Thousands of flyers early in the am. lots of pin tales. We didnt fare as well, ended up with 8 between three of us. Pretty slow shooting.
