The end of 2007 is near, so how was fishing for you guys this year?

I'd say this was a great year of fishing for me as I got a chance to fish Westport and Neah Bay for the first time. Plus I actually went and tried fishing for salmon and now I absolutly love it! I cant wait until May of 2008!

Mid-March, went over to Westport hooked up with a lot of lings and sea bass. we tried charter first, got more confident and took out our boat.

May, went up to Neah got my first ever halibut, more lings, cabezons, and different species of rockfish. I must say, Neah is the greatest fishery I have ever fished in. Bottomfish is the best!

August-September, after reading up about the spokane street bridge I thought i'd give it a try there for some humpies. I got close to my limit everytime I went to this fishery. this got me hooked on salmon fishing

November, hit up rivers for salmon w/ a buddy. We got A LOT of chums and silvers! So many fish that I had a sore arm after a day of fishing.

I fished some S rivers and...
Last winter steelies were decent. Couple big nates too.
Summer steelies sucked big time. Couple good days in June and then real slow.
Pinks were wall to wall but fun for the kids.
Coho were nuts most days. Lots of chromers for a couple months. Best I've seen in a long time.
I didn't target chums but they seemed to be fewer than usual. Still some big'ns got in the way.
This winter's brats started off well but have fizzled for me recently.

I'd have to say this year for me SUCKED!!

Fished the opening day of Area 9 for Ling Cod, Had a hook-up of a non-legal rock fish and lost some gear.

Fished the Opening day of the area 9 Spring Chinook (Possession Point). Buddie of mine had 2 hook-ups and lost both fish. AARG!

I was not able to fish the Potholes for Walleye. Least year we got 27 fish.

The I-5 North Bound closure kept me from fishing Elliot Bay. Last year Lori got a 34 lb Chinook and Dad got a 9 lb Buck.

My anual Albacore trip in West Port was cancelled due to bad weather. Last year we got 154 (no sh_t) 154 Albies!!!

The Humpies we're 2 weeks late. We got 4 fish in 6 trips. This year I missed them because of my Idaho trip.

So far this fall I've got 3 Silvers and one Steelhead.

But, I take the good with the bad.

Go Tips!

Great post Robert. This was a fun year. Went to Westport in May and got my first halibut and some rockfish. Went again in July with my son and caught cod and more rockfish. Had a good year on the rivers. Lots of kings, didn't get out for any pinks, but was a had pretty good luck with the silvers. Met some guys from GF, and made a couple of really good friends. All in all it was a great year. Caught fish way more than not, but even when I got skunked, it was with people that I enjoyed just spending time with.

Over-all it was a AWESOME year of fishing for me. Some of the catching was marginal.

Our annual 3-day trip to "Buoy 10" was sub-standard for catching. My 2nd annual trip to Neah Bay was fair... silvers were plentiful, kings non-existant, bottom fishing was ok. I had a couple of good trips on the Hump this fall. A great day on the Cow in Sept. No luck (due to lack of effort mostly) on local salt, except a fun morning wrassling with some chum at the mouth of a creek in A10.

I enjoy the time on the water and with family and friends as much as I enjoy coming-home with fish. I like the boat ride as much as the fishing. In this respect, this was one of my best years ever. I'm looking-forward to new adventures in '08. Hoping to get out for tuna, halibut, back to Neah Bay, back to Astoria, more time on Puget Sound.
