For some wild surface action, fish Dry Flies in size #18 to #24 for Planters. Now if you like night Fishing for Tasty Brown Bullheads, then drop a Nightcrawler along the Lilly Pads next to the Boat launch. The Largemouth Bass will be willing if you toss them the same bait under a Clear Bobber near the Docks. " TRAPPER "

Racfish32654, Glad you're Back! Horseshoe Lake is right up the hill from Purdy, WA off Hwy 16 a couple of miles. Olalla is just down the road a piece and from what I have seen a nice place to have moved to. Should make a good Home Base to head out from.

This house is in the area where the old Mosquito Fleet used to dock. The home I got is half over the water on pillings. It supposedly has a big Coho run in this area. I haven't moved in yet but looking very forward to it. Should be around Oct. 8. I know where it is now. I use the dump up there.

Racfish32654, Did you ever find any swivel mounts for your Penn Fathomaster 600? Here's a map on how to find 3 of my favorite places near you, Horseshoe Lake, Long Lake (for Crappie, Bass and Perch) and North Bay Public Beach (for Oysters). " TRAPPER "

I wish that place was near me. Where Im at is housing only. Nearest store is near the Olalla Post Office which is 5 miles from me.Other then that Port Orchard is the nearest food or drink. My place is very secluded. No stores No teepees and no boats . So far all I've seen are kayaks and paddleboards. I have seen some huge ships across Colvos Passage more close to Vashon.

Racfish32654,
If you like Fresh Steamer Clams and Giant Oysters (up to 8 inches) head over in March to the Public Beach Parking Lot on a Low Tide (about 13 miles west of you.)
In the little town of Victor, WA across "North Bay" from Allyn ,WA you can dig steamer clams and shuck oysters on about 3/4 mile of Public Beach.
This beach has been enhanced with oysters.
This beach does not require a very low tide to access good clamming habitat. A plus 2 foot tide or lower will expose enough of the beach to harvest clams. This is an excellent beach for Manila clams and Native Littlenecks. (The best area for digging clams is just north of the access trail, but there are clams throughout the beach and often occurring higher in the intertidal zone than other locations.) There are some butter clams, Eastern Softshell Clams and Cockles on this Beach, but they are not as abundant as the Manila and Native Littleneck Clams.

This is a good beach for oysters as they have been placed there on the beach by WDFW.
Open in March, April and September get there early for a parking spot.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Yes I do love to eat all the above. In August when Taylor Seafoods sells their seeds I plan to seed oysters and clams in my tidelands. I like to also put in some goeduck tubes also.

Racfish32654, To think, in a few years you could be harvesting homegrown Shellfish off your own Beach, that will be nice.

If you have any neighbors that might be tempted to harvest those Oysters for you, (perhaps chaining them to your Pilings would kept them safer.)
Do you have any Mussels already attached to the Pilings under your House?
Your Oysters usually like a beach with some fresh water running trough it but I'm not sure if its necessary to get them to grow. " TRAPPER "

Two of the neighbors have put in Goeduck tubes and have planted loads of Manilas and Littleneck clams. This coming summer we will all pitch in and plant loads more. We have a freshwater source that spills into our bay so its perfect . The water may be a bit too cold for raising oysters but perfect for clams and Goeducks.

I took my dog for a ride the other day and found AL'S which used to be a gas station and small store. It was right next to the boat launch in Olalla. Unfortunately it closed down. I looked for a for sale sign but did not see one.

Racfish32654,
How did you make out in your new Beach Cabin during the last storm?
We ended up with 9 inches of snow across the pond from you, but we never lost power. Hope you Folks are keeping that young Bloodhound's nose warm. ;) " TRAPPER "

My hound loves the snow. His feet are well adapted for the snow. I spent the storm in Seattle in my primary residence. I'm hoping all is well there and its all still standing. I got my second covid shot today and have some appointments tomorrow. I hope to be there in Olalla by Friday. I miss my fishing.

Sarge is looking good. Maybe if you'd feed him, he'd grow a little! Man, what a hoss. Good boy tho.
