With all the talk of up river nets above I-5, which used to be the "line" in the past, I called the hotline number which I've been using for years (1-800-FISH-NOW). This is the first time in over ten years that there was no garbled message of some guy speaking while eating a samwich. Nothing....

Maybe they have sold their nets, boats and closed up operations.

Maybe they are fishing illegally. Does anybody have the time to find out?

I just called 1-800-FISH-NOW, still no answer. It hung me up after fifteen rings or so.

Noticed the same thing. Last time I got the recording it was about every other day on the green up to 167, and Netting on the White up to 410. Now it just rings...

Does anyone know of the limits of how far up tribes can net on the skagit? I thought it was only below the baker and yesterday I saw a native with a small gillnet above the baker quite a ways anchored from shore. I passed by slowly a few times and he seemed to get scared and drove off( he was parked watching his net).

just trying to inject some humor...to a situation that the WA state powers that be are hopeless for enforcement.
The net has not been back in the river since Wed.
it is the same tribal fishermen that sets his net here every May-June.
Late model-new Ford 4x4 crew cab, set up with several coolers in the cargo bed. Very efficient operation this person has.

No I don't, but you can call Swinomish / Sauk Suiattle netting hotline (360) 466 - 4112 and see if it states a limit on area on the Skagit. This number does not however include the Skagit Tribe netting schedule.
