The ice went off last weekend (4/1). The trout fishing is still slow as the water clears from the ice melt, but both trollers and still fishermen have been bringing in a few 10" - 16" Rainbows. The fish activity should pick up quickly with the warm weather and clearing lake conditions. (Doug Tiffanys Resort)

Fished the lake on opener and did pretty well. Stayed at Fisherman's Cove. Caught rainbows from pan 8" to 2lb. We caught an average of 12 fish a day, fishing about 4 hours in the afternoon. The bite seemed to be good around 1:00pm. We used Ford Fender pop gear with a wedding ring spinner and worm. Color of the wedding ring did not seem to matter. Very slow trolling about 25 to 50 yards off shore on the Tiffinay's side of the lake. Good Luck.

We took our family vacation over there Aug.9-14.It was so hot(99-101)deg. i thought we were going to fry!At first we tried everthing in the tackle box with no luck but a couple of small lrgmouth bass to show for it.then we ran into a local guy from Black Beach resort.Turns out he stays there 5 months out of the year and fishes every day.He clued us in on what to use which was red or orange flies about 10-20 feet deep and we started catching nice trout within 10 minutes.In the 4 days we fished we caught 30 trout(released 20).my son caught one 19 1/2 in. 2 1/2 lbs.on a fly rod.Mine was only 17 1/2" 2lbs. I'm still hearing about that.

Fished curlew this week. No trout, the tiger muskies have to be eating them all because even 'Sandy', the 5 month resident trout specialist, is having problems. Caught many small bass to 1 lb and two muskies, one 9 lbs 33 in, and one 12 lbs 10 oz, 38 in. Great fighters and fun to catch, and fairly easy to get as well if you do it right. Try 6 in jerkbaits arround structure, it worked for me.

The Fish and Game Department only stocks 400 Tiger Muskie in Curlew each year. And given the muskies preference to weeds and rock structure in shallower water. I would have to think there would be another reason for the poor trout fishing during any given period.
