The supporting businesses aren't surprising especially for the area most are from, they have relied on the Columbia commercial fishing in the economy for a long time. The problem is,even though commercial fishing isn't needed these days and the economy in the area would not be really affected by a closure, IMO. Most just don't believe so since commercial fishing is bred into the people of the area, its going to be tough to get them to buy into a closure, the community still feels like the commercial is a means for survival of the community, besides tourism. You can't blame the businesses and families for supporting, they have been raised that way, and the Mayors and such are just trying to keep their jobs and do what they feel the voters want so they can keep their job, typical.

Times do need to change though, its definitely time for a slap in the face. Commercial fishing in the mainstem of the Columbia is rediculous and shouldn't happen at all, their is way to much of an impact on native species of steelhead and salmon. They need to stay in the Youngs Bay and Deep river area and other select areas setup for a safe productive commercial fishery and where native run impacts are a lot less likely to occur.

Time to stop doing business with the people that are helping to destroy our resource. Stop putting money into their pockets. This is a war for OUR resource. No where else in this country can they kill endangered species while farming the crop that is planted by others.....................

I cant believe how posts like this go unnoticed and harly even looked at. No wonder the commercials always get what they want and as much as they want. Sportfisherman in general really don't give a shit and WDFW knows it.
