I noticed a line vibration or slight shaking Friday on the cow , Herzog wrote ' In the winter sometimes steel head are light biters and you may only notice a vibration in the line , Any one ever have this happed before ? Any one read any other good books or this one and find usefull information ?

Thats a pretty good book, I like the back cover where it looks like he's about 17 years old. LOL

Are you looking for other good books on side drifting only?

The best information I found was on the river bank.

But if I had to list some books I would list the Herzog one and Steelhead Drift Fishing by Bill Luch. I really enjoyed those two books.

P.S. Welcome to the site Tup:

I still have an ancient copy of the Bill Luch book too. It's real short and to the point and it got me started too long ago. Herzog's is like a new and improved (and bigger) version of Luch's and of course it has real pics. I like 'm both.

I don't know if I ever hooked a steelie due to line vibration. But it is true that when the water's real cold, steelies bite super lightly. More like a slow semi-stop.

To tell you the truth, half the time I hook them while drifting, I couldn't even tell you why I yanked. I'll replay it in my head and still I can't recall what I felt that made me set the hook. But it sure is fun when the "rock" starts shaking its head!

I thought I was the only one who did that... clown:

First of all. Welcome to the site. The two books mentioned are excellent choices. I'm not sure I've ever experienced the line shaking or vibrating, but cold winter Steel can bite pretty light. As stated earlier by another member. Sometimes I'm not sure what made me set the hook. Just something a little different I guess. The old saying holds true. When in doubt. SET THE HOOK!!!!!!!!!
