8/29/2013 - Blair - I-82 Ponds, Yakima County, WA
Been fishing pond #6 buena all summer for catfish with absolutely no success. I believe this pond was so well known for its catfish that they've been fished way down. I did discover though that fly fishing for the black crappie is a blast if you have the right wet flys and go at the right time.

6/17/1966 - Stewart - Myron Lake, Yakima County, WA
Spent last week trying everything but the kitchen sink. I finally put together a bizzare set up. 2 bobbers 24" leader and weight with a small leader with single hook spoon with a fake worm. Just like days before I was giving up and reeling in when I got a bump.. So I decided to cast again with another hard bump. Last cast I was reeling in and snagged a nice 15 incher. This spot has made me think it's okay to bring the kitchen sink to use as bait. :)Do have a question. Can diabled vets or civilians use an electric troll motor here? Sure would like to see Wa State invest in more Handicap access docks etc!!

5/22/2007 - mtreels - Yakima River, Yakima County, WA
Floated the Yakima with Joe from Reds from Ringer back down to Reds. The water in the canyion was very high (over 5000cfs)and chocolaty colored, so we were real worried after driving 2 1/2 hours if we would be fishin, or catchin. First 2 fish were within sight of the ramp, and over 30 fish were caught consistently during the day. Caught about half on small beadhead nymphs, but the caddis hatch was unbelieveable. (Don't open your mouth-They don't taste good!) After lunch some fish started rising so we started fishing #14 dry caddis very successfully, mostly right under the brush . Water cleared a lot.
Average size was easily 14-15" or more with only 4 or 5 under 12" all day! Had my first fish ever jump INTO the boat, even with the rod tip low and parallel to the water. Great weather (60's) great guide, great fishing-and catching.

4/7/2007 - Ricky - Yakima River, Yakima County, WA
I fished Hansen's pond on the Yak since Thursday the 5th. I threw stoneflies, march browns, and even pink san juan worms.. no luck. I saw a guide with a client drift the section of the river where I was fishing and I told them I was nimphing so they changed their flies and before they drifted down river they landed a beautiful rainbow. My spirits where shaken. I believe the word on the river is that the water is too cold and the fish are not active. Regardless of my results Im still a fly fishing addict.

My brother, Tim, and I floated the lower Yakima the 13th and 14th. Saturday caught a couple nice bows. Tim caught a large one, 20-21 inches. Sunday, Tim caught and released at least five in the 20 inch range. I caught and kept one that size. Night crawlers. I will be back.

3/11/2005 - All Rivers Guide Service - Yakima River, Yakima County, WA
Trout trip today...Our float was from Ringer to Umtanum and we caught and released 20+ fish. About 1/2 of those were Trout with the biggest at 15". Not many bugs out there today even though we topped out at 75 degrees. A small BWO hatch with an even smaller PMD showing came out mid-morning but not many returned to the surface later on...no sign of Skwalas but the fish knew what they were and we did well on basic nympth, BWO and Skwala patterns above and below the surface...pretty easy fishing.

7/19/2004 - skot - Yakima River, Yakima County, WA
We floated down the Yakima River near Grandview. The smallmouth were feisty and often threw the hook if they got a chance to jump out of the water!! We hooked into a couple nice ones. Working our way down the river we landed around 20 in 4 hours.

We also came across a small group of pelicans just standing in the middle of the river. Neat! It was only 1 foot deep in places.

12/11/2003 - TRAPPER - Tieton River, Yakima County, WA
Nothing like a Good Smoker to get the Bones out of a Whitefish! After a Frosty Morning spent Stalking Muley's across the secluded Deer Trails of Bethel Ridge, I was ready for the Laughing waters of the Tieton River to wash my Focused Mind back where it could Dream again. The plump Whitefish were schooled in the same Old Hole under the Logging Road Bridge as they had done back when I was "Knee High to a Grasshopper". There's something simplistic about Drifting a Maggot Tipped Hook into a Pack of Cold Blooded Fish and watching the Crystal Clear Bottom change from Dark to Silver in an instant as the Fish awake into Foam. After an hours worth of Fun my Fresh Cut Stick lined with Whitefish I'm bound for the Brine and back to the warmth of my c Cabins Fire with a Mind Full of Memories both Old and Freshly Made.

1/4/2000 - sashalucy - Wenas Lake, Yakima County, WA
I used to live less than a 1/4 mile away from the lake for 10 years so I know the lake very well. The only time I ever caught any fish there was when I went ice fishing back in the mid 80's,I used corn. I have seen some big fish come out of there, but don't plan on getting a trout over 12" unless your planning on spending a lot of time there (days) or if your just extremely lucky. I've had the most luck in Wenas Valley by hitting fishing holes along the Wenas Creek. In my opinion Wenas Lake is the place to go when you don't have a better place to go and want to enjoy looking at some hills covered with sagebrush.

The fishing has not been so good. The best way to get rainbows is a muddler minnow and pop, gear. The only way to get the big boys is worms close to rooks
