Pilchuck River Reports

The Pilchuck is a quick, narrow, rocky steelhead river that heads N. of Sultan under Bald Mt. and flows W. and S. for 30 miles to the Snohomish River at E. edge of Snohomish. Open only during the winter, and produces about 300 winter-run steelhead a year, most are wild and most are caught January and February. Also has sea-run cutthroat and salmon but no salmon season. Boat fishing is prohibited. The river may be waded at riffles, and is paralleled along lower stretches between Snohomish through Machias by Machias road. The Robe-Menzel Road leads S. from Granite Falls along the river for 4 miles. Upper reaches are reached by driving SE from Granite Falls on Anderson Road 4 mile, then E. about 6 miles. This road swings S. to Sultan.

12/31/2001 - Thane Toney - Pilchuck River, Snohomish County, WA
Fished saturday for a couple hours. The river has changed course substantially this year. It makes for a different fishing experience. Watch out for deep holes that were not there last year when you are wading... No luck other than 1 good bump. Doesn't appear to be many fish in the river this year.

11/1/2001 - Dan A. - Pilchuck River, Snohomish County, WA
Fished about an hour. Landed a silver, no other bites. Lots of spawed out fish. I haven't fished here much, does anyone know what parts of the river are closed? The Fish and Game booklet is rather vauge.
