Cascade River Reports

Look for steelhead, rainbows, cutthroat and dolly varden. The Cascade is a tributary of the Skagit river, it joins the Skagit at Marblemount. The Cascade gets stocked with steelhead and can be an excellent steelhead fishery for both winter and summer runs. Directions: I-5 north or south to Burlington. Turn on to North Cascade highway/WA-20. Follow WA-20 to Marble Mount. Just past Marble Mount you will see the Cascade Hatchery, follow the signs to hatchery. There is a public parking area at the hatchery. Good fishing can be found in the river below the hachery.

Fished the Cascade today. Water is low and clear.
Had my first hatchery steelhead on the bank within
the first 15 minutes using a pink maribou jig and sandshrimp
tail under a float, chrome 7 pounder. Had another take down
later in the day, but lost the fish. Saw several fish in the river, but
no other takers. An 11lb. and an 18lb. were taken earlier in the
week, so the fish are there. GO GET EM'!

Fished the cascade over the weekend and only a bobberdown and a dolly to show for it. I and about 15 others fished it hard but it seems like if you are not there before first light then you have to wait until dusk. Only saw one steelhead caught and 6 chromers in the creek. I did see 3 roll and sat. night had one take a drifted prawn and lost it because I had slack line. Last week to fish, Good Luck!

Fished the cascade this weekend with no luck and only saw 7 fish caught in 2 days, SLOW! I guess tues and weds was hot, figures. Close the 16th. Good Luck!

Fished the cascade and skagit sat., sun., and today with my mom. Lost a hatchery steelhead below the cascade on a stee-lee on saturday. Nothing on sunday. 1 for 2 on steelhead in the cascade, a nice 8lb chrome buck on a orange/white jig but lost a small 5lb steely on a pink/white jig. Saw about a dozen steelhead hooked between 7am and 10am. Water is super low and clear. Good Luck!

Fished the cascade friday & saturday above and below the hatchery and kept 2 good looking silvers with bobber & eggs and hooked a steelhead or a smallish bright silver with a pink jig but spit the hook. Heard of atlest a dozen steelhead being plucked out this weekend. Water was up but clear until the rain storm blew everything out last night. Good Luck!

Fished upstream of the hatchery yesterday and today and totaling 7 for 10 and all to dark to keep. Really kicking myself in the but for forgetting the eggs because yesterday a group was slaying them with corkies/eggs and today another group put on a clinic with float and eggs. Lots of coho just slim pickens but heard of a couple semi chrome fish but no steelhead yet. Water was dropping and unlimited visability. Good Luck and don't forget the eggs!

Fished upstream of the hatchery with my dad on saturday and sunday for coho and that what we got. I got a total 5 releasing a lot of darker ones and losing a lot. Dad only got 2 as well as losing some and all kept were chromers . Saturday was great because of the rain but sunday, fishing really died off in the late morning. Bobber-doggin' eggs and drifting corkies/eggs seemed to work. Lots of pink and quite a few people on the hatchery side of the river. Water was clear and low. Good Luck!

Happy Newyear! Fished the 'scade by the hatchery and the Skagit below the mouth today and yesterday. Both were low and clear with unlimited visibility, cold water, and little crowds. Weather was pretty cold but sunny and didn't see any Steelhead but hooked a couple Dollies until the last hour of fishing. Saw a small school of what appeared to be lock-jawed steelhead. In case of emergency, tie on old faithful (float & jig w/ a pinkworm). First cast bobber down but spit the hook, dang. Thats all the action I got. Good Luck.

12/12/2010 - Hunter - Cascade River, Skagit County, WA
Fished the 'scade on Sat. and Sun. above and below the hatchery. Low & clear on Sat. with some rain but at night it rain hard e4very second which caused the river to go high & muddy and the crowds to go away from Sat. We fished it anyway with no luck using bobber & eggs or sand shrimp or pink worms and drifting pink worms. Saw 1 steelhead and big Dolly Varden caught on Sat. but nothing on Sun. Should be good when weather turns to snow or stops raining. Good Luck!

Fished the 'scade on sat. and sun. with bobber & bait and red beads. Hooked 15 Coho and landed 4, kept 1 and every single one was red than a fire truck. Also hooked a 18in Dolly that was released. Tried the upper part with and released a spawning Bull trout. Hadn't heard of any steelhead yet. Good luck!

9/19/2010 - Hunter - Cascade River, Skagit County, WA
Fished the 'scade yesterday and today with no luck. As many coho there are steelhead. Saw 3 silvers on the beach and a nice summer steely. Saw a lot of silvers and steelies jump. Everybody was using rigs under boobers. It rains a lot causing the river be really high and muddy with maybe a foot of viz. Went to the Skagit and they have been jumping down there, too. Caught and released a nice little wild Steelhead. Good luck!

Fished the upper cascade friday-monday for Trout and Steelhead. Hooked a lot of Cutthroat, biggest was 11 inches. Those were caught with a small blue fox spinner and a jig. Today I released a 18 inch Dolly Varden and a wild Steelhead about 5 or 6 pounds. Both were on a pink worm under a bobber. Silver season starts on September 15 through November 30. Good luck!

Fished the 'scade across from the hatchery and just upstream for a hour and drifted eggs. Water is very high, a little discolored, and moving fast. Heard some Kings hooked and jumping but no luck myself. Should be good fishing soon. Little crowds to but a lot of boats on the Skagit. Good Luck!

Fished the 'scade by the hatchery on Friday and Saturday from 4:30pm to 5:45pm and hooked a steelhead with a pink worm under a float but lost it and had dollies chasing my rig. The river is very low with 10+ feet of visibility and there were no other fisherman.

Fished the 'scade by the hatchery this past saturday. Water level was decent and crystal clear. Saw quite a few Silvers that had turned red, some of them quite large. Only thing I put a hook into all day was a few Dollys that were taking eggs under a float.

Ist hole below the Hatchery creek on the Cascade River was very productive for Winter Hatchery Steelhead. The Steelhead were from 6 to 10 lbs. They were stacked in just behind the Coho.Best action was with a small Indiana Spinner blade in silver with one red bead,10 lb fluorocarbon leader. We got our two fish limit both Saturday & Sunday last weekend, also caught & released 14 Coho's.Fresh Steelhead now in the freezer here in Buffalo,NY!

12/21/2004 - Curtis - Cascade River, Skagit County, WA
Fished by the hatchery this morning, saw a few taken on corky and yarn. Had no hits there. Went to the Skagit and hooked up the first cast right at the Cascade mouth. Landed it. About 7lbs, native or un-clipped hatchery hen. On eggs and orange corky. Also hooked a big chum that broke me off. After retying hooked another steelhead which was a 6.40lb hatchery hen. Fished another two hours without a hit. Curtis
