Fished the 128th street access just outside of Orting for the past three days. I haven't seen any fish. Saw a Dolly landed yesterday. If their are Chum in the river they aren't showing here.

The chums have been running in the upper river for the past 4-5 days. I’ve gone 3/8 in the past few days drifting row and using a spinner. I’ve seen other guys catching them too. Most of them are pretty dark, but a few are still bright on the back and belly. I took one of the brighter ones home and the flesh was still as firm as when they come from the ocean. I’ve also seen some smaller fish jumping; look like small steelhead, but none of them biting. Water is very low up here, even with the rain last week. Going out again today.

Fished the Puke up near electron today......just dead ones on the beach and eagles picking at their eyes everywhere. Then moved down to Orting and fished there for an hour, nothing in the river there either.

I went to the river again today; to satisfy my addiction mostly. I waited first till it got above 25 degrees, just to try to establish some sort of protocol to keep from freezing my feet/legs and drowning. It was about 11:00 AM. I neither saw nor hooked anything. Saw a few other guys there who had nothing either. Really, I feel like those WWII Japanese soldiers who continued to fight the war for 25 years after it ended because they couldn't believe their country had surrendered. There are no catchable fish in the river right now! I question and challenge those guys who are posting catches on this site: you must be trying to sell something or promote a business. Not that fisherman would ever lie about these things; :-). Oh well; I'll keep trying, just like you guys will.

Had no idea there were Sculpin in the river till today, foul hooked one about 4" while drifting eggs out at 116th gravel bar.
Lots of trash; leaves, twigs, etc. dragging in the current along the bottom. Messes up any chance of decent drifts.
Saw a couple fish roll near shore, tossed spinner, spoon, and eggs, no takers.....
Water's dropping, hopefully with this cold spell, it'll clear enough to fish before too long.

Night closure ended at midnight. Fished mouth of 66th ave bridge otherwise known as Clarks Creek. My cousin and I released over 15 fish keeping our limits of chrome bucks for the smoker. The fish are in tight to the bank and I recommend fishing above the mouth and casting short swinging into the fish. Not crowded either.

Got out early today. Nuthin in the river at Clark's creek. Thought I would head to the other end of things and see if the Chum had made it up to the Puyallup out by Electron. Lots of dead fish on the banks! Big native Chums everywhere, 20+ lbs, all dead. We need a bit of rain the river is way too low for fresh fish to enter.

Fished a bit with the Indians today. Their nets are not coming up with many fish at Clark's Creek. It is my feeling that the Chum run is running a bit late this year.

Hit the Puyallup at Clarks Creek from about 7:30-11:30. Before the nets went in. The bite was pretty good early. I should've been on the water by around 6. Lost two bright chums at the net and landed a chrome bright hen. There were a lot of guys but most of them pretty good guys to fish with. Too cold for anybody to get cranky. Had a lot of ice in the eyelets of the rod and couldn't feel my feet for about a half hour after I got out of the river but it was a good morning. Guys fishing above the creek need to stay in closer to the bank, they are all pretty much standing right where the fish run. A little closer to the bank and back cast and you'll hit more fish. The guys I fished with, hooked into three times as many fish, while staying tight to the bank up above the trees than the guys standing in the middle and casting 3/4 of the way across the river. I did the same thing when I started but they straightened me out on it and my catch ratio greatly improved. Just something to consider. Good luck out there gents.

Hit the river at sunup, between Main St. bridge and mouth of the White, water is clear and high. Still not too bad for spending a cold morning drifting corky and yarn in hopes of a Salmon. 2 hrs back and forth on that run, just one good hit, hook didn't set. No complaints, still a decent day to be on the river. Can't feel too skunked, didn't see anyone else land any either.

Went out to the bridge after I got off work at 8 and it was a rough day watching the netters catch all my fish relentlessly. I fished til about noon with corkies and got one snag but nothing landed. Netters should be done Tuesday.

Me and my buddy checked out the 116th hole down in Orting. Not much going on, didn't see any fish rolling. Did see a guy that told me that he busted off a couple of silvers. He was using a spoon with a treble hook. Another guy supposedly had a fish up in the bushes, never saw it but he swears he lost a 30 pound chum yesterday. Yeah... there was a lot of that going on. Maybe I'll hit the lower river again after the nets are out.
