Went to Spanaway lake last 3 days in a row. Limited out within 1 1/2 hours every time. Not sure what the issue is with people not limiting even after sitting for 4+ hours on the dock.
IF you want limits, Fish the cement sidewalk on the right side of the boathouse right at the peak that sticks out.
Best setup thus far for limits:
Berkley's Gulp Chartreuse Salmon Egg's, Two per hook. Some Berkley's "Trout Attracting Scent". Size 10 hook (Gold). 3 Foot 4 lb Leader. 1/2oz Egg weight with a bead to swivel. 6 lb Mainline. Ultralight Rod.
Bleed out your fish the second you pull them in.
Goodluck! Me and my girl have both been able to limit within 2 hours in the same location.

Just watched a guy shore fishing catch a 30 inch 3-4 pound rainbow off the bottom. Water is warm so bottom fishing seems to be the way to go

the bass are in small schools in fall time, try fishing the secondary weed beds not the lily pad. I know the pads are tempting but they are dying right now and are not putting out much oxygen in the water. so stay away from the pads, look for underwater secondary weed beds, and bass are schooled up in what i call wolf packs six or seven in one area cast till you find em' and keep casting there.

Hooked some really nice perch on the lake yesterday with my daughter, she caught the biggest at just under 12inchs. Very exiting for her and for me to see her catch a good fish. Speed boats came in so we went over by the island to get away from them. Fish are still biting. Good luck all.

10/25/2011 - Dan - Spanaway Lake, Pierce County, WA
Went out on the lake yesterday to try out my new/very used boat and to do some fishing. Boat dang near sank, fixed that problem then back to fishing. Tried the opposite side of the lake as the boat house in the park with no luck. Ive heard story's of HUGE large mouth bass in this lake, I gotta figure out what they like for bait/rig setup.

Have not cought anything under 15" limit every time in less then two hours each time out. cought about ten over 17" one 24".

ha you guys only got 10-14 inches. I CAUGHT A 6lb. TROUT ON THE FAR END AWAY FROM THE BOATHOUSE. TROLLING. 22in. long. Bud in the boat house said there has only been two 6lb. trout caught out in that lake and mine was one of them. So boys keep tryin. Never thought the trout liked the red fly lure. they loved it and now i love it. we also caught a 2lb. trout and a couple 12-14in. Great day on spanaway lake.

Hit the lake at 6:15 and immediately the bite turned on in the southeastern corner of the lake. We put two 11 inchers in the boat and a couple pushing 12 inches. we used powerbait on a five foot leader. ended at 11 o'clock with seven trout in the boat.

Went with a friend off the dock and fished for trout. Only caught a cold. We used nightcrawlers, powerbait (yellow egg and rainbow colors) vibrax and blue fox spinners and wedding rings with no success. Not sure if the lake is producing much in close

8/2/2002 - SteelieDan - Spanaway Lake, Pierce County, WA
This lake is at its best right after it is stocked in March. Being a year-round lake makes it impossible to keep stocked. The big bass boats and jetskis ripping at Mach 10 past us small fishing boats make it tought to enjoy. Anyway, went out today and trolled for a few hours. Two hits and one very nice 14 incher (rainbow) in the boat. Trolled numerous baits, but it seemed that my good ole standby, the black gnat spin/fly combo lure behind a Model T Ford Fender set up seemed to work great. I ran the fish finder all over this shallow lake (27 foot at the deepest) but there was very few fish showing. Try against next year, right after the March stocking!
