Humptulips River Reports

Winter and summer steelhead, sea-run cutthroat, fall chinook, coho and chum salmon make this a popular coastal fishery. All wild steelhead must be released. Check the current regulations pamphlet for information on seasons. Bank and boat access is available with rest rooms. Disabled accessibility - Level 2, WCT, lgs. The entire river, including the west fork, was closed by emergency rule to all fishing from March 1 through May 31, 2002, to protect wild steelhead. The season closure changed permanently to February 28 effective in 2002.

Floated the Humptulips from above the hatchery on Stevens Creek to pullout about 13 miles below. Caught 23# chrome bright king on pink Dr. Death Kwikfish, one hatchery silver at 13# on a black "Brad's Jigs" with rabbit tail 3/8 oz jig twitching, and one 15# chrome bright hatchery silver on bobber and eggs. Also hooked and released numerous monstrous chromer chums on kwikfish and jigs. WOW! what a float trip!

Indeed a long drive and a waste of gas, lots of dark fish. 90% are snagged, left home with nothing due to no legal hookups and lots of fish with wierd bumps? Not sure what they are. Gonna check out barrier dam in a few weeks!

10/4/2013 - Meat Hole - Humptulips River, Grays Harbor County, WA

fished the humptulips today. Landed and released one big chum and lost a fifteen lb or so silver after a five minute aerial battle! Fun day free driftin eggs. River is high and losers stacked shoulder to shoulder snaggin fish at the mouth of the hatchery creek. I stayed 50' downstream. Chums were thick and the only fish I seen come to shore

Fished Hump for first time yesterday. Water was rising fast due to previous nites rains. Still boated 15 fish. 13 big chum 2 kings. Fun fun fun. Also had a buddy by hatchery and he too caught lots of fish, but he had a few more keepers. Water was just starting to drop at end of day, should be killer for weekend if it doesn't pour.

Not a whole lot going on in the hump. I fished it all day long yesterday started high an worked to low hoping the rain would bring in the fish. Where are all the fish????? What a horrible disappointing fishing year! Good Luck all!

9/28/2012 - Gene - Humptulips River, Grays Harbor County, WA
Fished Rynevaan (sp) bar this morning, there from 7am to 10:30 am.....are there realy supposed to be salmon in this river? water way too low....did see a couple small "somethings" jump, possibly very small Jacks...did catch a sucker fish, nice catch and release on that poor thing. We need some rain...I dont even think any hard core fish have started in.....made for good casting practice, sigh.

Checked the Hump. Still high & fast. I think the winter season is about over after last weeks snow. Waiting for the Wynooche in June for flyfishing for summer runs.

(Late post) Fished stevens creek from 8am till 3pm. Hooked 4 Steelhead landed one 17lbs hatchery hen. And one firetruck coho. Lots of fish caught all over the river. As long as the river doesnt blow out bad the fishing down there is great. Float and Jigs.

Went out to Steven's creek hatchery and didn't catch anything... dawn to 11:30 am. Saw 3 steelhead caught. Water looked pretty good. It came down a couple of feet and visibility increased; we just didn't have any luck! Everyone using corkies and yarn, sandshrimp.

I got to the creek at first light and found nothing. There were a few other guys but nothing going on. The river was dropping down again so its way to low. I left around 12:00 and went to the cowlitz with a few sleds in the river and a few bankers. I fished around blue creek at the end and got one and lost four. It was a pretty good day and there were a few other fish caught so I think cowlitz is the hot ticket right now so come on down.
