Fished the Cowlitz from Castle Rock to the S curves above the mouth of the Toutle 8 hrs. 2 hits/0 hookups for 4 rods. Trolled herring, spinners, and plugs. Color was good, river is stil high (9,500 cfs at Mayfield). Saw one fish caught for about 7 boats. No plunkers had fish. At least it didn't rain.
fished for 6hrs plus water was super high with very few fish rolling did not hook any my self but saw three fish hooked and landed my fishing buddy breifly hooked up but that was it my advice save you eggs and gas.
Went out today first skunk in awhile. still had two on. one was 5 minutes after being out there. i see everyone using shrip and not catching fish. maybe try something new.
Went out and locals must have heard how good my gf, her dad and i had been doing cause our spot had someone and their friends there. fished camalot and saw one steel head caught on spin glow and shrimp. kings are slowing down.
flatfished 1, possibly 2 Springers plunking. Didn't see #2 but he straightened my treble hook and ran out 1/2+ spool. He was a big boy with big shoulders. #1 was 15lbs.
Fished all day got a couple on. lost both saw one really small king. liike 4/5 pounds. other one felt good. just plunking. also saw plenty of fish role.
22 Jun 14 Caught my first 8lbs Spring King of the season on the Cowlitz river by Barrier Dam. Was great being out with my daughter. Floating jigs under a bobber.
The Coho on the Cowlitz river are still rolling. The hatchery has been consistently reporting good numbers in their traps making the Cowlitz river a good option for late run Coho fishing. Best bets are up by the dam, but still plenty of Coho through out the river.
This is the down side of the run and many of the fish have turned to the dark side but there are still some nice ones in there.
With the recent rains the action should be pretty good this weekend on the Cowlitz. Our Lunker's Guide fishing forecast for the Cowlitz is good to Great!
Fished at barrier yesterday twitching jigs, caught 8 kept 3, one was bright, one was just turning and one was red, not a fire truck but will smoke up nice, was using 3/8 buck tail jigs purple/black and orange. Both with black heads. Great action. Tight lines

Yeah, it was running pretty hot. those 3/8 oz jigs were able to get down pretty quick. People floating eggs weren't doing to well. Jigs are the way to go
ITS NOT YOUR IMIGANITION...B RUN STEELHEAD ARE WAY DOWN ON THE COWLITZ AND WATER IS WAY UP SO ITS TOUGH FISHING...
EVEN THE GUIDES AREN'T DOING THAT WELL...OF COURSE THEY SAY THEY ARE KILLING THEM BUT WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IF YOU WERE TRYING TO GET SOMEONE TO GIVE YOU $200.00 PLUS FOR HALF A DAYS FISHING FOR 2 FISH.....
DRAGGING 4-5-6-7 HOOKS INTO A FISHS FACE IS THE MOST PRODUCTIVE WAY RIGHT NOW....HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SKILL...
AND THEY DON'T CARE ONE BIT IF THEY CAST OVER, UNDER, AROUND YOU IN THE RIVER TO SNAG FISH.
Maybe the guides should pack it up and get a job stocking shelves. Hooked lots of fish with on a piece of backer foam this year. Anyone can get a guide license most of these guys are overhyped.
Picked up a young sturgeon on the Cowlitz plunking herring on May 6th. Caught and released.
