Hey you goose hunters, stop shooting your rifle.

This was a letter to the editor in the Skagit Valley Herald. It made me chuckle. :)

The sickening sound of a rifle

A flock of Canada geese, an eagle soaring overhead, little birds at my feeder — they all bring the terror back, the horrible sight of a magnificent snow goose falling to the ground, falling from the white cloud only 100 feet or so overhead.

I’d only heard about the migration through the rich Skagit Valley. I’d never been fortunate enough to witness it firsthand. Driving with friends through Mount Vernon and La Conner, through those verdant fields this past Sunday, I was absolutely thrilled at the sight of these magnificent birds, snow geese and swans, hundreds, thousands on the ground, and some rising as a cloud to some unseen trigger.

Then, shocked, sickened, outraged to hear pops, rifle shots, see dogs running with white bundles dangling from their jaws, the “hunter” loosely aiming his rifle into the flock and the results. Across the street, a lone individual, rifle carried casually at his side, walked across the field toward a white flock on the ground.

Sport? Survival? Barbarism? Do your communities really support this action? I can only hope that your families are nourished by the flesh of these totally defenseless and unsuspecting creatures.

Funny when read the headline, I thought people were hunting geese with riffles. Do you think it would help if I offered to educate her in the difference between a riffle and a shotgun??

Someone should respond to the letter with their favorite Snow goose recipe.

Yup, Laugh all you want, but without a response posted in that paper. Guess who is "educating" others that don't know. And yes an attached mouth watering recipe would be a nice touch.

I wonder what she eats? I would hate to think of the thought of her biting into a totally defenseless and unsuspecting apple!!!

I've noticed over the years that the majority of these folks are not in touch with the reality of life. However as stated above without a follow up this is what people read and follow along with. Lets face it, the majority in that area are allowed to vote, and how has that worked out for us so far?

It's equally sad to hear these comments from people after soccer practice. You know they leave in a volvo with leather seats, wear the latest leather fashions in shoes coats purses and belts from Nordstroms or Neiman Marcus. Then on the way home from school stop for the kids to eat at mcdonalds, and get a roast, steak, chicken or some species of fish for the family dinner. Wonder if they have tofu for thanksgiving or are the millions of people eating Turkey in America also barbarians?

All of this sterile plastic wrapped foam container packaged animal matter is totally legitimate. As long as the blood is on somebody else's hands.
