C&I have been making lists and checking them off - not to mention stumbling over boxes - for the past several weeks. At last the Friday of departure arrived – she is sidled with the task of final packing and loading the truck while I finish up a shortened work day. Around 1 pm, we are ready to make the journey to the little slice of heaven right here in our majestic WA State; weary, we press forward with a burst of adrenaline and a renewed sense of excitement.
Defining scenery along the way signifies our imminent arrival and all of the cares of home slowly fade away…

Enter Olson’s Resort, an icon in the history of the town of Sekiu and in the hearts of so many anglers, as busy as ever before and still the same beloved home away from home.

Hurriedly, the bags and equipment were dumped at the cabin so that the town and its visitors could be discovered through the lenses of our video & still cameras.

Despite the dense frothy fog that expanded across the vast creation, still the great ball of light made spectacular appearances and warmed the spirits of skippers and crew as it reflected its gold goodness off the chrome bounty.

Every day the weather kept us guessing and never disappointed with its power.

Fishing for salmon was always good, but the catching was sporty and Team F24 and crew put their time in this year. Rain pushed new schools through and turned the bite around about half-way through our week.

Mariners’ Memoire – Chapter 2: The Briny Bottom
The mermaid-like kelp beds have lured many sailors to their briny death and it also beckons to us for a chance at a fish box full of white fish. Fewer things are as amazing as rolling with the current through the kelp beds that protect the rocky shoreline of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A virtual aquarium of Black SeaBass, Lingcods, Kelp Greenlings, and other incredible bottom fish offer the spectator a glimpse of home beneath the surface.

As if the bottom fishing Xperience wasn’t enough of a blast, one afternoon after bottom fishing we spent with Salmonslair (aka “Barney”) - along with Skipper Joe - for an extraordinary fish fry complete with the unveiling of secret recipes.

Great video! Great memoir. Thank you fro sharing.
