Getting ready for the April 25 opener!

America's Fishing Day - the 2009 general trout opener - is right around the corner, and NWWC is doing everything possible to help the trouters of Washington enjoy a successful April 25 opening day. In addition to our traditional Opening Day 'Bow Blitz (where we serve up live reports from trout fisheries throughout the state), this Saturday, April 18 will be our 2009 Trout Preview.

Our focus will be the top 10 Westside fisheries ... but here's where Y-O-U come in: I'd like to know which lakes or reservoirs YOU would like us to cover, east or west of the Cascades. Live in Lacey and need some info on Hicks Lake? Live in Arlington and want some biologist info on Lake McMurray? OR, are you planning a run over to Conconully for the opener and need some pre-opener scoop?

Let's hear 'em. My trout source book is open and ready. You need info on ANY trout fishery in the Pacific Northwest, I have a source there.

Trout Survival Packs: So, in the spirit of introducing new anglers to the trout world, I've put together some "Trout Survival Packs" to give away pre-opener. These packs will include rod & reel combos, Dick Nite Spoons & DNA, Rooster Tails & Rooster Trolls from YBC, Pautzke salmon eggs and other basic must-have trout accessories. I WOULD REALLY LIKE THESE TO GO TO KIDS, or, at least, somebody who's maybe never fished trout before.

Not sure how we're going to manage that on the air on Saturday, but .... we'll get it figured out. :)

Let's hear those trout requests!

Anderson Lake in Jefferson Co. Sometimes lights out and then goes dead. I hear tales of good spinyray fishing but can't seemn to swing it.

Pass, Paden, Toad and Anderson added to the list!

We'll have Jim Uehara, the WDFW's Inland Fish Program Manager, on the show to talk about the state's stocking schedules, how those might change in coming years, and how to best take advantage of fresh stocks in your local lakes. I've used Jim as a source many times, and he's full of good info.

I'll be up listening! Oh! I have quite a few Trout Packs made up here at the intergalactic headquarters of Dick Nite Spoons...

I like that you will be trying to aim the stuff toward kids or new trout fisherpeople!

I like the lakes in my area that have big fish potential. First off I live in the south sound so American lake will always come to mind. While its an urban lake, American holds big rainbows which can be chummed, and a decent spiny ray population. Both species are underfished, and the lake itself is underated. Second lake is Mineral lake. Hefty rainbows, chunky browns, and also some bass. Unlike American lake this out of the way gem is often crowded throughout the season for good reason. Tup:

No specific lake, but I'd be interested in why some lakes in the same area get higher plants and/or triploids and others get a a much smaller plant. Examples east King County lakes: Alice; Cottage; Langlois; Beaver; Pine for example - big dicrepancies on numbers of plants and size of plants, yet all are fairly near each other and genrally serve the same communities.

Great topic and great idea with the survival packs. And I have a "ringger", my sons best buddie. It's his first year fishing, so we took him on a short trip to bradley a few weeks ago. With a lil help casting he caught his first fish ever clap:
And now he's hooked, and is always asking "when we going again?".

And just because I was just in my man cave pre-tying some rig's dont mean I'm excited
I had the chance to call in a few year's ago, that was cool. I made Dick spit coffie when I talked about his DNA scents :D

So when's the show on, and what channel? And how do we call in?

Ask Jim Uehara about Lake Ten in Skagit County and if the state has any plans to open access to this publically owned lake but at this time there seems to be no legal access to. Also what is being done by the state to address the issue of illegal stocking of Lake Ten by the current land owners of the area.

One subject that I guarantee Jim will talk about is the general allotment philosophy WDFW has for each fishery. Which lakes gets what? And why?!?

Jim's a "foundation" source: he's been on my call list for years, and has exceptional information from a viewpoint that we normally don't get to hear.

Looking forward to having him on!

Pass Lake, or Padden or Toad Lake in Whatcom County!!!

Interesting that they would throw Pass Lake in there since it is open year round and is also a Selective Regualtions Fishery. I hope no one gets the wrong idea & shows up on opening day with the wrong gear.
